Despite not making the playoffs following the 2017 NFL regular season, the Dallas Cowboys’ future is still looking bright. Here’s why …

The Dallas Cowboys‘ 2017 season ended in disappointment, falling short of a playoff berth after a crushing week 16 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

While fans are understandably frustrated with the way things ended this season, all hope should not be lost. Here are five reasons why the Dallas Cowboys’ future remains bright.

1. They still have a dominant O-line

When fully healthy, the Cowboys’ offensive line remained the dominant unit its been over the past several seasons. With a hopefully rejuvenated Tyron Smith, and an inevitable re-signing of Zack Martin, the Cowboys should go into the season with 4 out of 5 spots on the o-line filled with Pro-Bowl talent (Yes, that’s right, La’el Collins could be a pro-bowler too.)

2. They’re young

Expectations were unusually high for such a young team, so it’s no surprise the Dallas Cowboys came back down to earth this year after a dominant 2016 season. However, it’s only reasonable to believe Dak, Zeke, and the other under-25 players on the team will continue to improve and make up a solid foundation for years to come.

3. They finally have a defense

The emergence of pass-rushing duo DeMarcus Lawrence and David Irving, coupled with an improved young secondary and a now-healthy Jaylon Smith should give Cowboys fans reason to

believe their team can finally boast a stout defense. The Cowboys’ defense surprisingly outplayed their offense down the stretch of the 2017 season, and if they manage to keep this unit together, they could boast the best defense they’ve had in years going into the 2018 season.

4. Dak still has promise

Despite an up-and-down season, Dak Prescott still has much room to improve. Hopefully, he’ll have a better supporting cast around him next season, and with a hungry Zeke back into the lineup full-time, we should see more of the 2016 version of Dak going forward.

5. Coaching continuity

I might get lambasted for this one, but while most of Cowboys’ nation is calling for the heads of Jason Garrett and Scott Linehan, actually have coaching continuity for a young team could actually be a good thing (despite the fact the Cowboys have already lost a few key assistants). Linehan will undoubtedly have to change a few things up next season, keeping Dak in the same offense might be crucial for his year three development.

And besides, with the trio of Jason Garrett, Scott Linehan and Rod Marinelli, the Cowboys have actually boasted winning seasons three out of the last four years, with the lone losing season with Tony Romo out for the majority of the year. Patience could be key with this team, and its only fair to give the major coordinators another shot to make it work.
