Orlando Scandrick, Cornerback

Earlier this offseason, the Dallas Cowboys elected to allow several members of their defensive secondary to leave via free agency to invoke a youth movement on that area of their roster. Cornerback Orlando Scandrick remained on the depth chart to provide a veteran presence on the squad. In hindsight, the Cowboys might have chosen the wrong veteran to keep.

Scandrick, who was even named a team captain this year, wasn’t much of a leader for this young group of defensive backs. Especially when it came to game performance. The aging veteran has only played 11 games this season while posting some of the worst numbers of his career.

So far, the 30-year old cornerback has posted 38 total tackles and three pass defends. Scandrick has been unable to record a single interception or sack this year.

Once thought to be the Cowboys most dominate defensive player, the massive knee injury that robbed him of an entire season back in 2015 appears to have crushed what appeared to be a promising career for the now 10-year veteran.

With young corners like Anthony Brown, Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis stepping up in his place, it’s time the Cowboys completed the youth movement in their defensive secondary and said goodbye to Orlando Scandrick for good.
