According to team sources, Dallas Cowboys injured left tackle Tyron Smith plans to play this Sunday in a critical matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

The most impactful name to appear on the Dallas Cowboys injury report this week was starting left tackle Tyron Smith. Injured in the third quarter in last weekend’s victory over the Oakland Raiders, Smith’s status for the Cowboys critical Week 16 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks is in serious jeopardy.

Earlier this week, it was revealed Smith suffered a knee sprain (LCL). And on the Cowboys’ final injury report, the seven-year veteran was listed as questionable for the upcoming contest with the Seahawks after missing practice entirely on both Wednesday and Thursday. But Smith was able to practice on a limited basis on Friday, which was an encouraging sign.

On Saturday, Mike Fisher of CBS-DFW reported that unnamed team sources have indicated to him that Smith plans on playing Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium. Officially, he’s still a game-time decision. If Smith is unable to play for whatever reason, backup Byron Bell would get the starting nod as he took all his Tyron’s snaps in practice this week.

Having Smith in the lineup would be a big boost for a Cowboys team struggling to keep their playoff hopes alive. Not only must Dallas win their final two games of the season, but they will also require a number of other outcomes from within their conference in order to gain a berth in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Earlier this season, Smith missed two games due to a groin injury. During his absence, quarterback Dak Prescott was sacked a whopping 12 times. The 27-year old offensive lineman has also been dealing with an ailing back all year.

The Dallas Cowboys have been able to win their last three games despite the absence of their star running back, Ezekiel Elliott. Week 16 marks Zeke’s return to the field. Having Tyron Smith on the offensive line as well, someone who was just named to his fifth-straight Pro Bowl, would significantly increase the Cowboys odds of beating the Seahawks on Sunday.
