Defensive Coordinator Rod Marinelli

Marinelli has long been given a pass due to a perceived lack of talent.  Fans seems to resign themselves to the idea that he does the best he can with what he is given.  A complete overhaul of the secondary might have been another pass for him but recent weeks have made things difficult.

DeMarcus Lawrence leads the team and league in sacks but opposing passers have the seventh highest rating against this defense.  Rookie safety Xavier Woods has played well when he is on the field.  Unfortunately, he’s not on the field as often as the underwhelming Jeff Heath.

In addition to that, the lack of turnovers (four in five games) and three games of 35+ points allowed has fans at a boiling point.  The sad truth is that the Cowboys often play a very basic defense.  That defense is not fooling anyone and is being exposed.  Clearly, Marinelli’s pass is almost at an end.

So, who “won” the fans ire?

In a very tight race, it seems that Jason Garrett is on the hot seat, at least within the fan base.

Will the owner ever get rid of his Golden Child?  I don’t think a coaching change will occur unless this team continues to falter in a big way.  Seven or less wins might be what costs Garrett his job.

Ultimately, if things get better, the feeling surrounding the coaching staff will as well.  Most fans are hoping for that scenario.  If things don’t however, change may be necessary in order to appease the fan base.

It seems like there is no such thing as a drama free season in Dallas.  After five games, the drama, however, is stirring less noise and more anger and frustration.
