Duke Thomas, Cornerback

Like many of you Saturday night, I spent most of the game trying to match player names up with numbers. And one of the numbers who flashed on the screen for me multiple times was #26. No worries. I looked it up. The name is Duke Thomas.

Thomas, like the previously mentioned Lenny Jones, was a futures signing back in January. Last year, the University of Texas alum spent time with the Houston Texans before landing on Injured Reserve last August.

In Saturday’s game, it wasn’t as if Thomas made a spectacular play, although he did recover a fumble. It’s simply the fact he seemed to always be around the ball, flashing in front of the screen several times. To the point where I had to be sure who I was watching. Officially, Jones recorded four total tackles and had a fumble recovery against the Rams.

Next: Is this the year Byron Jones steps up his game?

This might be a better fit under the “honorable mentions” category, but for me, cornerback Duke Thomas stood out. And I’ll be watching for #26 more often in the coming weeks to see if that continues.
