Lenny Jones, Defensive End

Maybe the name that surprised me the most in the Cowboys second preseason matchup against the Rams was defensive end Lenny Jones. A futures signing by Dallas back in January, Jones spent all of last season bouncing between nearly every NFL team in California. (San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and the Los Angeles Rams)

Luckily, Jones has now found a home in Dallas. And although his status on the 53-man roster is far from secure, his play Saturday night certainly helped his cause. From the left end position, Jones proved to be a game disruptor.

Granted, the Nevada product was facing third and fourth string level competition. But the 26-year old’s energy and impact was undeniable.

Jones ended the day with three tackles and a sack, matching the same output Cowboys first round pick Taco Charlton had on the night. Although the undrafted Jones won’t have the red carpet treatment to the roster that Taco will, he’s likely earned more snaps in the coming weeks as the Cowboys coaching staff decides if he’s the real deal or not.
