Cooper Rush, Quarterback

Cooper Rush, the undrafted rookie quarterback out of Central Michigan, once again posted a terrific preseason outing under center for the Cowboys. In relief, Rush completed his first eight passes, including a 25-yard touchdown strike to tight end Rico Gathers. It was Dallas’ only touchdown of the game.

The 23-year old Rush seemed cool, calm and collected in his second straight preseason contest. Against the Rams, the 6-foot-3, 228 pound gunslinger completed 9 of his 11 passes for 104 yards and a score. That’s a whopping 81.8% completion rate.

In his first preseason outing in the Hall of Fame game, Rush threw for 87 yards and a touchdown plus he rushed for 23 more yards on two attempts. He was 9 of 18 in the Cowboys win over the Arizona Cardinals.

At some point, the Dallas Cowboys must seriously consider Cooper Rush as a possible primary back-up replacement for veteran Kellen Moore, who looked terrible Saturday night. If Rush continues to improve, it might be hard to waive him knowing he’d likely be claimed by another team.
