Rico Gathers, Tight End

This one is fairly obvious. Scoring his second touchdown in as many preseason games has been a tremendous boost for Rico Gathers, whom before joining the Cowboys as a sixth-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, last played organized football in middle school.

A dominate basketball rebounder at Baylor, Gathers is still trying to make the difficult transition from round ball to the NFL. But his development is clear, as the 6-foot-6, 290 pound tight end is seemingly making strides with every snap.

So far this preseason, Gathers has recorded seven catches for 106 yards and two scores. Although critics still point out his flaws as a blocker and in knowing his assignments, the 23-year old’s abilities as a receiver are off the charts.

With these two back-to-back performances, Rico Gathers has likely cemented his place on the Dallas Cowboys final 53-man roster. There is no way the Cowboys can expose this talent on the waiver wire at the end of the preseason. Likely every NFL team would put in a claim for him.
