Daryl Washington, Linebacker

Daryl Washington is a name that should be familiar to fans of the Dallas Cowboys. This offseason, Washington’s name has appeared in connection with the Cowboys as a possible landing spot for the once talented pass rusher.

A native of Dallas, the last time the 30-year old played in the NFL was 2013. That was due to a three-year suspension for multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. But the NFL surprisingly reinstated Washington in late April and the talented defender claims to have spent that time rehabilitating his life.

The former Arizona Cardinal, who was a Pro Bowler in 2012 after posting 134 tackles and 9.0 sacks, is just looking for an opportunity to prove himself. And he’d love to do so with the Cowboys as he currently lives just four miles from AT&T Stadium.

The biggest area of weakness in Dallas for some time has been pass rush. And currently, the Cowboys have a lot of unproven players at the right defensive end position. Adding a veteran like Washington could help bolster what is a very young unit.

As for his past transgressions, the Cowboys have been known to be an organization that is willing to take a chance on an at-risk player on a case-by-case basis. And there are reports Dallas is doing their homework on Washington, so there is at least some interest on both sides.
