Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Ryan Switzer will be the best performing rookie from his 2017 draft class in year one. And here’s why…

How about this for a bold prediction: Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Ryan Switzer will be the best player from the team’s 2017 draft class in year one.

Yes, there were players picked ahead of him on positions of need that will play more. None of them however are going to have the impact in their first year as Switzer.

Prior to the draft, Dallas had a desperate need for defensive backs. There has also been a void at the edge position.

Both of these spots have been addressed and should help rebuild the defense. None of them, including first round pick defensive end Taco Charlton, will create the buzz the slot wide out is going to this year.

The reasons why: Switzer is likely going to work his way up to the 4th option in the passing game. He is a Cole Beasley-like mismatch for any defense and he will open up his teammates a great deal.

Where he is going to have his real impact on the team is in the return game.

The Cowboys haven’t had a threat at punt returner since Dwayne Harris left for the New York Giants. Switzer brings instant credibility to the spot as he had the second most return touchdowns in NCAA history.

Add in that he had the lowest drop rate for a slot receiver in the NCAA and the Cowboys have a shiny new toy. If used properly Switzer will be an immediate x-factor.

Consider a formation that lines up Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams outside. Beasley in one slot, Switzer in the other and Ezekiel Elliott in the backfield. That is a mismatch nightmare for any defense.
