Dallas Cowboys: Nolan Carroll charged with DWI
Dallas Cowboys free agent cornerback Nolan Carroll was arrested early Monday morning on a charge of suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
The Dallas Cowboys seem to be snakebit when it comes to their players having off-the-field issues that in turn hurt their on-the-field status. Just last week, it was reported that defensive lineman David Irving could be facing a four-game suspension for allegedly violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy.
On Monday, the news got worse for the Cowboys defense. According to the Dallas Morning News, veteran cornerback Nolan Carroll was arrested early Monday morning on a charge of suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The Cowboys signed the 30-year old veteran to a three-year, $10 million contract back in March.
It’s a surprising arrest as the Cowboys organization actually provide a free car service for players who feel they are too intoxicated to get behind the wheel.
Adding a much-needed veteran presence, Carroll was signed to a Cowboys roster riddled with holes left by former starters in cornerbacks Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne and safety Barry Church whom all exited via free agency.
Carroll was a fifth round selection out of Miami in 2010. He spent first four seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins. After posting 47 tackles, 11 pass defends, 2.0 sacks and three interceptions in his final year with the Dolphins in 2013, Carroll was signed away by the Philadelphia Eagles. And he’s been playing for the NFC East rival of the Cowboys ever since.
The former foe was expected to help bring along three rookie cornerbacks Dallas’ drafted back in April; Colorado’s Chidobe Awuize, Michigan’s Jourdan Lewis and Florida State’s Marquez White.
With so many rookies in the secondary, many penciled in Carroll as a potential starter at cornerback when the regular season kicks off in September. But this latest news certainly puts his status in question, depending upon the outcome of this arrest.

It is certainly troubling news for a Dallas Cowboys team that purposely rebuilt it’s secondary from top to bottom this offseason. And whom were likely depending on veteran Nolan Carroll to help shape their future.
