Position Battle #1 – Cornerback

With the Dallas Cowboys letting both starting cornerbacks from the 2016 season walk in free agency this spring, it comes as no surprise that this should be the most interesting position battle going into 2017.

While Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne were serviceable starters, although Mo was rarely healthy and Carr was a liability on the left side until he was finally switched to his more natural right side last season, the Cowboys front office and coaching staff felt that they could get younger, cheaper, and more talented at the cornerback position this offseason.

They definitely got younger and cheaper. It remains to be seen if they were able to get more talented at the position, but it certainly appears that way after making a smart and safe signing in free agency as well as drafting three talented corners.

One exciting thing about the 2017 Cowboys cornerbacks is the fact that most of them present tremendous versatility, being able to play either side and also in the slot.

Every NFL executive and coach will tell you that you can never have enough cornerbacks and I fully expect for six corners to make the 53 man roster.

Only two, and if you count the nickel corner as a starter- three, cornerbacks can start though and this is going to be a very interesting battle to see who wins the starting jobs.
