Brice Butler, Wide Receiver

Following a turbulent and injury plagued first season in Dallas, the Cowboys hoped fifth-year wide receiver Brice Butler would become the consistent deep threat this team has needed for years. After posting 12 receptions for 258 yards in 2015, Butler followed that up with just 16 receptions for 219 yards and three scores last season.

Admittedly, there are a lot of mouths to feed along Dallas’ talented offense. And Butler is often the last to the bowl. Still, the 27-year’s old performance last season can be best decided as Jekyll and Hyde.

On one play, Butler can demonstrate a playmaker quality reminiscent of Dez Bryant. On the next play, Brice can be make a boneheaded mistake or drop that reminds you why the Oakland Raiders’ gave him away to Dallas for a conditional fifth-round pick (swapping for Oakland’s sixth rounder).

Inconsistent play and mental errors is what got Butler bounced out of Oakland in 2015. And it might be the reason Brice gets a pink slip this offseason as receivers like Ryan Switzer, Andy Jones and Noah Brown compete for his roster spot.
