Dallas Cowboys 2017 NFL Draft: 10 Surprises
8. The force is strong with Obi
I was upset the Cowboys didn’t land Obi Melifonwu, the safety out of Connecticut. I think Obi will do some major destruction with the Raiders. Let’s hope I’m wrong here, but I got this feeling the Cowboys will regret not taking him over Taco with the 28th overall pick.
Though Obi went 56th overall, four spots before the Cowboys’ 60th pick, I think the Cowboys were winners by not trading up to nab him.
They landed Awuize, who can play slot, safety and corner. See, things worked out.
9. To keep Orlando or not to keep, that is the question
Football is a cold business. Just look at quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with the Minnesota Vikings.
Cornerback Orlando Scandrick was supposedly on the trading block during the draft. Not sure how this one will play out, but number 32 has been a very productive Cowboy. He’ll be missed, if he does indeed depart Dallas.
As always, stay tuned.
10. The 88 catches fire again
Well, guess who stole the show? Former Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson stole the mic. And, if we’re being honest here, he stole the entire NFL Draft show.
The Cowboys, who own the Eagles with a 62-50 head-to-head record, reminded the Philly fans who the boss is, thanks to Pearson.
Immediately after the speech, which deserves several watches, I thought to myself, man everyone is going to jump at the microphone like Drew going forward.

But, nothing is better than the original. And you can’t get more original than this number 88.
Nice job Drew Pearson. You threw a Hail Mary and caught it, on Philly grounds no less.
