Analysis: I was honestly confused by this selection. I understand Florida State’s Marquez White showed flashes of talent during his time with the Seminoles a couple years ago. And that Dallas hopes he will be able to replicate that success with the Cowboys.

But Dallas just spent three of their top five selections in this draft on their defensive secondary. Even considering the fact both veteran corners Orlando Scandrick and Nolan Carroll are on the wrong side of thirty, adding another defensive back here seemed wasteful. Especially considering Dallas has other needs on their roster to fill.

I would have loved to have seen the Cowboys take a flier on a quarterback, running back, tight end, offensive lineman or a linebacker over White here. I understand the sixth and seventh rounds are typically where teams take risks. And maybe this pick was just insurance in case Jourdan Lewis’ legal issues don’t work out or Dallas decides to trade Scandrick away.

But as it stands today, I’m just not sure where another cornerback fits on this roster. The likely answer is that he won’t.
