Dallas Cowboys 2017 NFL Draft: Grading Each Pick
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 188 lbs.
Combine 40 Speed/Vertical: 4.54/34 1/2
2016 Numbers: 25 tackles, 1.0 sack, 13 pds, 2 ints
Analysis: Although I expected the Cowboys to look for a safety during this round to replace lost starter Barry Church, Dallas instead drafted Michigan cornerback Jourdan Lewis here.
I certainly recognize the value, as many see Lewis as this draft classes’ top slot cover corner. But his size combined with the fact he was recently charged with domestic violence had him completely off some draft boards. And considering the Cowboys recent troubles with troubled players, I figured this prospect had also found his way off Dallas’ board.
But Lewis proclaims his innocence. And he’s scheduled to go on trial in late July. This is certainly a risk by the Cowboys. One, I’m not sure Dallas had to take due to the talented and deep draft class at that position. But the Cowboys must feel ultra-comfortable with Lewis’ pending legal issues if they spent a third round selection on him. But it’s undoubtedly a risk.
