Riskiest Pick of the Draft

DE Taco Charlton – Michigan

I’ll be honest.  I did not love this pick when it happened.  As time and additional information has come to light, however, I understand why Dallas made this choice.

I’m nominating this selection as the riskiest of all due to the decision to not move up and obtain a better player.  Guys like Derek Barnett, Charles Harris and Takkarist McKinley all went in front of Charlton.  Instead of moving up for one of them, the Cowboys stayed put which may have not been the best idea.

Charlton could be an amazing player but his lack of consistency and brief time as a starter are a bit worrisome.  He did save his best season for last however, so he could be just starting to reach his potential as the opposing quarterback’s worst nightmare.

All in all, the Dallas Cowboys did well for themselves, addressing the biggest needs with quality players.

Dallas became younger and faster at cornerback without much drop off, if any, in skill set. The Cowboys chose to stay put in round one and chose the best available pass rusher instead of moving up for a more flashy pick.

Now is the time for these young guys to get to work and start earning their Star.
