Following a report by TMZ that Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Randy Gregory has failed another drug test, is his NFL career now over?

The Dallas Cowboys thought they had found the steal of the draft back in 2015 when Nebraska pass rusher Randy Gregory landed in their collective laps in the second round at 60th overall.

After posting a total of 20 tackles and one sack while playing in only 14 games in the past two seasons due to injury and drug suspensions, the 24-year old defensive end’s NFL career seems to be all but over.

According to a report by TMZ.com, Gregory has failed his seventh drug test and has been actively avoiding NFL officials.

"“TMZ Sports spoke with multiple people with direct knowledge of the situation who confirmed Randy was tested on Feb. 21 and was informed on March 2 that his specimen came up positive for weed. We’re told Gregory has since blown off the NFL officials who tried to discuss the situation with him and people connected to Gregory tell us it appears his NFL career might be over.”"

Gregory, a one-time touted top ten talent, tumbled down draft boards during the 2015 NFL Draft after failing a drug test during the NFL Scouting Combine.

Last season, Gregory played in only two games for Dallas after spending a majority of the year on suspension for multiple violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. And he has already been suspended for the entire 2017 regular season and potentially longer due to another failed drug test.

If true, this latest reported failed test for Gregory likely means his NFL career is all but over. Although there could be one saving grace in the sense that Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is apparently in favor of a more lenient marijuana policy.

But according to recent statements made by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, he’s not currently in favor of taking marijuana off the list of banned substances for recreational use.
