The first week of free agency is in the books for the Dallas Cowboys and every other NFL team. While Dallas lost some key role players, they were also able to plug some of the holes with solid free agents on team-friendly contracts.

Below, and in the following pages, we’ll attempt to catch you up on all of Dallas’ losses and signings so far. As well as examine the voids yet to be filled on the Cowboys’ current roster.

Who did Dallas lose?

Ronald Leary, Guard

Leary who was the enforcer of the line and brought a nastiness and attitude to the unit is the biggest loss, in my opinion. Leary signed with the Denver Broncos and is a huge upgrade for them.

Barry Church, J.J. Wilcox, Safeties

Wilcox signed on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will likely see more snaps with them. His safety partner, longtime defensive captain Church signed in Jacksonville to help make an immediate impact on the back-end for the Jaguars.

Terrell McClain, Jack Crawford, Defensive Line

The defensive line lost key role players in both Terrell McClain and Jack Crawford. McClain’s play was never flashy but he was a huge part of the run defense. He was a big reason why the Cowboys had the number one ranked rush defense last season.

Doug Free, Right Tackle

Longtime offensive lineman Free announced his retirement last week. Free was getting up there in age (33), but he was a very consistent starter in this league. He will not be as easy to replace as some fans believe.
