Dallas Cowboys Free Agency: Replacing Terrance Williams
By Carl Daley
The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to build up their roster as the 2017 NFL free agency period begins. And it’s starts at wide receiver.
The Dallas Cowboys are heading into free agency with several players contracts expiring. The team will look to reload for the upcoming season during this period and in the upcoming 2017 NFL Draft. The Cowboys will have some big questions that will need to be answered during this period and it will all begin in free agency.
Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams is expected to depart from the team during free agency. Williams should get more money playing on another roster as he will be one of the better wide receivers on the market.
Part of the answer to filling William’s void is the re-signing of Brice Butler. On Wednesday, Dallas and Butler agreed in principle to a one-year, $1.1 million deal that will give the 27-year old another season to prove he deserves a longer contract.
But the Cowboys re-signing Butler doesn’t mean he’ll be on the roster past the preseason. So, Dallas could still be looking for value in free agency. And finding a veteran number two wide receiver could be the road they find themselves going down.
MUST READ: Dallas Cowboys Free Agency Rumors – DeSean Jackson, Kenny Britt
There are already rumors that Dallas is interested in veteran wide receiver Kenny Britt but they may have some competition. The Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers are also looking at Britt as a potential addition.
If the former Los Angeles Ram wants to win he will head to Big D as the 49ers and Eagles will still need to add some pieces before they are truly considered contenders. If Britt does prove to be outside of the Cowboys price range, the team could pursue productive receivers like Stevie Johnson, Victor Cruz, Kendall Wright, or Cordarrelle Patterson.
A former Minnesota Viking, Patterson is a pretty decent return man and with a little help could be a fairly decent target in the Cowboys passing game. If Dallas does not acquire a wide receiver during free agency they could double down at the position during the draft.
