Free agent quarterback Josh McCown is going to visit with the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, as a possible back-up for starter Dak Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys have a serious void behind starting quarterback Dak Prescott on their current depth chart. Assuming veteran quarterback Tony Romo is released or traded this offseason, Prescott has absolutely no one backing him up right now.

Both quarterbacks Kellen Moore and Mark Sanchez are currently free agents. And although it was expected the Cowboys would attempt to re-sign at least one of them, it now appears Dallas could look to free agency to find a veteran back-up.

Before the start of last season, the Cowboys reportedly entertained a trade that could have brought veteran quarterback Josh McCown to Dallas via the Cleveland Browns. But the Browns rumored asking price of a future fourth round pick or higher was apparently too steep for the Cowboys. Dallas opted to sign Sanchez instead.

Early last month, Cleveland released McCown, saving the team just north of $4 million. And last week, ESPN’s Ed Werder reported that both the free agent quarterback and the Cowboys shared mutual interest.

Now, several sources are reporting that McCown is coming to Dallas on Wednesday to visit with the Cowboys. Since he was released by the Browns, the 37-year old quarterback is free to visit with teams prior to the official start of free agency on Thursday.

If the Cowboys do end up signing McCown, don’t expect to see either Moore or Sanchez back in “Big D”. Instead, Dallas will likely try to replicate the success they found with Prescott last season, and draft a late round quarterback to develop as a possible trade commodity.
