Could former Miami Dolphin and current free agent wide receiver Kenny Stills be the perfect addition to the Dallas Cowboys roster?

With 21 members of their 2016 roster scheduled to hit free agency soon, the Dallas Cowboys have several potential voids to fill. One of those voids looks to be within their wide receiver corps.

Last year, the Cowboys entered the regular season with only five wide receivers on their active roster. Those players being Dez Bryant, Cole Beasley, Lucky Whitehead, Terrance Williams and Brice Butler. Both Williams and Butler are currently free agents.

With the potential loss of those two receivers, combined with the cloudy future of Whitehead who struggles with consistency and has gotten into trouble for missing several team meetings, Dallas could be down as many as three wide outs on their depth chart.

This likely means the Cowboys will be looking to both free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft to provide some depth at the position. And one of the free agents they may want to target is former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Kenny Stills.

"“With Drew Brees throwing Stills passes in 2014, the former Oklahoma Sooner excelled in his second pro season, as he was just 69 yards shy of 1,000 on just 63 catches,” wrote John Kosko on Pro Football Focus recently. “In a shocking offseason move, the Saints traded Stills to Miami, and his production took a hit in his first season with Ryan Tannehill as his quarterback. He bounced back in 2016, however, as he averaged 17.2 yards per reception and hauled in nine TDs. Stills has elite speed and has shown that, when utilized correctly, he can be a dangerous weapon.”"

The former fifth round selection out of Oklahoma back in 2013 could be the perfect addition to the Cowboys roster. Dallas has been in desperate need of a speedster to pair alongside Bryant in the starting lineup. A player like Stills could take the top off of opposing defenses. That would not only open up the Cowboys offense to more open underneath routes, but potentially improve their already dominate running attack as well.

Last season, Stills recorded 42 receptions for 726 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns. His 17.3 yards per catch average was the third highest in the NFL in 2016.

Still’s abilities are not in question. His potential price tag in free agency is. According to Spotrac.com, the 24-year old’s estimated market value is approximately $6.4 million annually.  But according to the Miami Herald, unnamed sources believe it’s more in the $12 million-a-year range.

Obviously, the Cowboys are likely not in the market for a $12 million per year receiver to play second fiddle to Bryant on the depth chart. But something more in the $6 million range sounds plausible. Stills would certainly be a great fit in Dallas. But only at the right price.
