Here are several random thoughts to consider as rookie Dak Prescott leads the Dallas Cowboys with Tony Romo on the sidelines.
It wasn’t suppose to be like this.
The Cowboys weren’t suppose to use their quarterback insurance policy before September. But now the Boys need a new insurance policy for their current quarterback, who was once the backup plan.
It’s painful to write this. As a fan. As a writer. Nobody believed quarterback Tony Romo would last 16 games in 2016. His body was giving out. Retirement conversations were the whispers at the water coolers.
Just a week ago things were looking up. Quarterback Dak Prescott was a rookie sensation waiting in the wings. Ezekiel Elliott was primed to make his debut as the Cowboys sensational rookie runner. Dez Bryant is poised to return to his number one wide receiver ways. Romo was healing and prepared to take on the New York Giants on September 11th, football opening day.
Then news outlets reported the breaking news.
Though, I must say, it was more heartbreak, heartfelt news. You’ve prepared for this moment. The 2015 campaign was a sneaky unwanted glimpse for things to come: The beginning of the end for Tony Romo, one of the greatest Cowboys to ever wear the Star.
There’s so much to talk about. The events triggered last Thursday in Seattle will cause a ripple effect of things to come, shaking up the NFC East and the type of blueprints used to claim the crown.
Let’s untangle some spider webs with some quick random thoughts I’ve had as the Dallas Cowboys head into the fourth and final preseason match against the Houston Texans on September 1st.
