Five disappointing Cowboys who could be starters
5. Morris Claiborne | Cornerback | Born February 7th, 1990
He’s still young. He’s still somewhat talented. Unfortunately, he’s still a bust.
But that doesn’t change the fact that the Cowboys need him.
Claiborne signed a one year “prove” it deal last March to stay in Dallas. The contract is worth $3 million, a reasonable price for a team thin on defensive backs.
Despite three forgettable seasons to boot his career in the NFL, the former sixth overall pick in 2012 did have a fair season last year before going down with injury.
He started 11 games for the Cowboys in 2015.
With Orlando Scandrick coming back from injury, Claiborne’s status as the starter is in the air as number 32 heals up. This doesn’t change the fact that Claiborne has 36 starts under his belt along with 21 passes deflected.
It’ll be interesting to see how Claiborne benefits with Byron Jones serving safety duties and with Scandrick back in uniform.
Claiborne has been a starter for the Dallas Cowboys, but maybe this is the year he actually owns and deserves the title.
