RECEIVING

On a podcast earlier this week, I heard an analyst tip Dez Bryant as one to avoid in Fantasy Leagues in the forthcoming season. His reason? He didn’t have one.

In the nine games he was on the field last year, he was not the Dez Bryant we all know. He was either hurt, without Romo or a combination of the both. Yet on his day Bryant continues to be one of the most exciting talents in the league. Make him mad, and he’ll go out there, work twice as hard and prove you wrong.

Following in the footsteps of his fellow #88 Michael Irvin, could Bryant eclipse his mentor?

Michael Irvin 1995 Records

  • Targets – 165
  • Receptions – 111
  • Receiving Yards – 1603

In 2013, Bryant fell just short of the target record, with Romo looking to pass to him on 159 occasions. The team arguably has more offensive talent now; for Dez to be targeted as many times as 165 may just be twenty times too many.

Likewise, Bryant is yet to make three figure receptions in his career as a Cowboy. It’s hard to imagine that changing particularly while Jason Witten is still a feature.

In 2012, Bryant has 1382 receiving yards. That’s a good couple of hundred shy of Irvin’s franchise record. Again, one that’s not likely to happen.

One record that is in Bryant’s sight is one he broke previously in 2014. He had 16 receiving touchdowns that year. A resurgent 2016 could well see him look to match if not better that.

Romo, Elliott or Bryant? Who do you back to break franchise records in 2016?
