We examine three defensive backs the Dallas Cowboys could target in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Jalen Ramsey, Ezekiel Elliott, Joey Bosa. The Dallas Cowboys would love to add all of them to the team. Three of the top talents in this years draft pool, and arguably the best available at each of their given positions. The fact is, they’ll only have the opportunity to add one of these players.

The Cowboys defensive backs have needed addressing every draft year for what feels like forever. Byron Jones was a fine addition last season. Mo Claiborne still has a long way to go to prove he was a valid first round pick least of all overall sixth selection.

Brandon Carr is overpaid but a consistent ever present in the team. Orlando Scandrick is waiting to bounce back from missing a year through injury, but his return will be welcomed. The biggest sticking point though is at safety. Barry Church and J.J. Wilcox just aren’t good enough.

Below are three players the Cowboys could target throughout the draft- from the first round down to day three. The round predictions are via CBS Sports rankings.

Round 1: Jalen Ramsey | Florida State | Cornerback

Were it not for the desperate need at quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, Jalen Ramsey would have been a legitimate choice for the overall top pick of this years draft.

Not dissimilar to the Cowboys first round pick last year Byron Jones in his immense athleticism. Fast, strong, agile he projects ideally as a safety although the Cowboys may well start him off in the similar fashion as they did with Jones- in at cornerback.

As with many of the modern style defensive backs, his athleticism exceeds technique. He’ll have to improve on his tackling and back pedal at the next level.

"“…he can play corner, he can play safety. It makes things easier with making decisions with Byron Jones. Yeah, I think they have to pull the trigger if he’s there.” – Mike Mayock"

Versatile, resilient effective playmaker. Would be a dynamic addition to the Cowboys secondary.
