Another name that continues to be a favorite for the Cowboys to take in mocks is UCLA linebacker Myles Jack. In his latest mock draft released today, Chris Burke from Sports Illustrated has the Cowboys selecting Jack 4th overall.

"“Dallas still has roster spots in need of a touch-up, but should feel positive enough about its RBs and DEs to nab Jack over Ezekiel Elliott and Joey Bosa.”"

Whether Jack is even legitimately in play for the Cowboys pick at 4 remains in limbo until he’s cleared medically. Next week the linebacker will undergo a medical to determine the current health of his knee. He was limited in drills at the combine, and didn’t compete fully in UCLA’s Pro Day last month. Teams will want to be guaranteed that he hasn’t lost any of the athleticism that put him into the top tier conversation.

Some deem drafting Jack as a waste of a pick. Dallas starting linebackers Rolando McClain and Sean Lee have both been dominant for the Cowboys and with them in the side, fans are questioning where you play Jack. But it should be noted, Lee has played just 14 games in two seasons and McClain 24. Jack would likely get game time, but if not at linebacker then what about elsewhere on the field?

"“I’ve heard safety, Mike, Sam, Will, inside backer. Some teams joked about running back. I don’t think they were serious about that, but, I’ve heard it all pretty much in the back seven.” – Myles Jack"

At the time of writing though, the Cowboys have just one linebacker lined up for a visit (that we know of). That’s Deon King from Norfolk State who is expected to go undrafted according to the CBS draft rankings. Perhaps this then is an indication that the Cowboys feel the linebacker position for now is solid.

Of course much can change between now and the draft. We’ll continue to update you on all those visiting Valley Ranch here at the Landry Hat, so be sure to check back regularly. Maybe your favorite draft pet will be heading in to meet Jerry and co.
