A writer for NFL.com believes the Dallas Cowboys could be the preferred landing spot for free agent running back Lamar Miller due to his love for America’s Team.

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to be players in free agency next month. But the Cowboys have proven in recent years to be more bargain hunters than big spenders. But could that change this offseason? According to one writer for NFL.com, a major free agent could be knocking on Dallas’ front door when the market opens in March.

"“Still just 24, [Lamar] Miller has his best years ahead of him — could they be in Dallas?” noted NFL.com writer Colleen Wolfe on the league’s official site Tuesday. “If he stays in Miami, he’ll play under his third head coach in his fifth year with the Dolphins and possibly split carries with Jay Ajayi. If he goes, don’t be surprised if he lands with the Cowboys, the team he grew up cheering.”"

Wolfe also noted that out of all the free agent running backs available, Lamar Miller has likely the least wear and tear since his previous head coach, Joe Philbin, didn’t utilize him very much.

Miller is one of the premier running backs in this free agency class. Ranked as the fifth best overall player at his position last season by Pro Football Focus, the four-year veteran rushed for 872 yards and eight touchdowns. Miller also had a career-high 47 receptions for 397 yards and two more scores in 2015.

A native of Miami, Miller has played near home his entire career. He even attended the University of Miami. And not only was Miller a football star in college, but he was also an All-ACC performer in three separate track and field events.

The former fourth round pick in 2012 would make a wonderful addition to the Cowboys depth chart beside veteran Darren McFadden. And behind Dallas’ dominate offensive line, Miller would likely achieve his potential as an NFL running back. Like McFadden, the 24-year old would also get the added benefit of playing for his favorite team.

The biggest obstacle to making Miller’s dream a reality will be money. Are the Cowboys going to give the talented young back the contract he desires? In the recent past, Dallas has refused to overpay for running backs as they seem to believe nearly anyone can find success behind the offensive line that they have built. That theory was somewhat debunked last season after running backs Joseph Randle and Christine Michael failed to live up to expectations.

Still, I’m not sure the Cowboys are ready to ink a player at that position for big money. But maybe Miller can change their minds.
