A former teammate of Robert Griffin III believes the talented, young quarterback can learn from playing under a veteran like the Dallas Cowboys Tony Romo.

Next month, when NFL free agency official begins, so will the Dallas Cowboys hunt for a veteran back-up quarterback. It is a position that is a main focus of fan interest this offseason due to starter Tony Romo‘s two collarbone injuries from last year which sunk the Cowboys season.

Although the Cowboys could also address this position in the draft, finding a player with a history of success in the league as a fallback plan for Romo is likely the preferred option for 2016. In fact, if the right player is available in the draft, Dallas could opt to bring both a rookie and veteran onto the depth chart to secure both the immediate and the franchise’s future beyond their 36-year old starter.

As far as speculation is concerned, which is honestly all that we have at this point, the odds on target for the Cowboys in free agency looks to be Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. The four-year veteran was named to the Pro Bowl after his very first season in the NFL, and also received the Offense Rookie of the Year award.

But injuries and coaching clashes sidetracked Griffin’s career in Washington. In fact, it’s gotten so bad that the once promising franchise quarterback was stashed on the bench all of last season despite being healthy. Looking for a new start, former Redskin and RG3 teammate safety Ryan Clark believes playing for the Cowboys would offer him something unique: a learning opportunity.

"“[Griffin could] go to Dallas and be a backup and learn from a guy who was un-drafted, who had to come from the bottom and understand his skill-set in order to play,” Clark told the Washington Post. “So I think it would be the safer bet for the Dallas Cowboys. He’s better than Kellen Moore. … He’s going to get [another chance]. Did you see the Dallas Cowboys when Romo went out? If he can’t outplay any of those guys, then that’s trouble.”"

No doubt humbled by his experiences in Washington, RG3 could find redemption with the Cowboys. Behind one of the youngest and most talented offensive lines in the NFL, along with an owner in Jerry Jones that will shower him with all the attention he could ever want, the native Texan could easily make his home in Dallas while learning behind one of the best quarterbacks in franchise history.
