Garrett will coach the North Roster and will get the opportunity to work closely with players who may well be on the Cowboys radar come draft day. It’s a unique position for coaches to see how players perform under a training environment, seeing first-hand the way the young men handle the physical and mental pressures as well as a chance to assess their personality and temperament.
The Cowboys have a long history with the Senior Bowl and in the last five years alone they’ve drafted Zack Martin, DeMarco Murray, Terrance Williams and Dwayne Harris- all participants in the game. Dallas Cowboys staff writer Rob Phillips touched on how the Senior Bowl helped establish the team in it’s early years.
"“The legendary Tom Landry coached the Senior Bowl from 1962-65 as he and his staff began the gradual transition from expansion team to contender. On his 1964 South team roster was Bob Hayes, the Olympic champion and college running back selected by Dallas in the seventh round a couple months earlier, who would go on to revolutionize the wide receiver position. In 1963, first-round pick Lee Roy Jordan played on the opposing South team as Landry and the Cowboys coached the North.”"
While quarterback Carson Wentz is the name most fans are interested in seeing this week, here are three players to watch who will be under Garrett’s tutelage on the North roster.
