Better Cowboys Fit: Johnny Manziel or Robert Griffin III?
The Dallas Cowboys have been revealed as the likely preferred landing spots for both Johnny Manziel and Robert Griffin III. But which quarterback is a better fit for the Cowboys?
It’s no secret that the Dallas Cowboys are looking for a young quarterback to groom for the future. Although the popular belief seems t o be that the franchise will look early in the upcoming NFL Draft to fill this need, two names have been circulating has having possible interest in the open position behind 35-year old stater Tony Romo in Dallas. And both young quarterbacks are currently on other rosters.
According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, both Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel and Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III have expressed interest in playing for the Cowboys if they are released or traded by their current teams.

Each quarterback has large amounts of baggage that come with them. But both would also be upgrades over current back-ups Kellen Moore and Matt Cassel in Dallas. Both candidates happen to have played their college ball in Texas, both are former Heisman Trophy winners, and both were respective first round selections for their teams. But that’s were the similarities end.
Griffin is nearly three-years older than Manziel who just turned 23 last month. RG3 will turn 26 next month. But Griffin also has a history of success in the league, although that was four years ago. In 2012, the former Baylor Bear was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler in his rookie season after throwing for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. Griffin also ran the ball for 815 yards and seven touchdowns.
But Griffin has been plagued by injuries and a diva attitude ever since. The hope is that this season, where he sat out the entire year and was even forced to play defensive back on the Redskins practice squad, has humbled the once prideful player. And that Griffin is ready to work for another chance.
Manziel has found no success in the NFL following a legendary run at Texas A&M. But he is much younger than Griffin and doesn’t have the injury baggage. But his off-the-field antics and diminutive size are big issues. Can Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones rehabilitate the party animal and mold him into the next Romo? This season, Manziel played in nine games for the Browns. Starting six of those contests, Johnny Football threw for 1,500 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. It was an improvement over his rookie year, which he barely played.
