Exhibit C

Still trailing 14-0 with 0:20 to go before halftime, the Cowboys have one timeout left and are on their own 37-yard line when Cassel attempts a throw, then pulls it back at the last second for an incompletion.

The Packers spice it up a little on this one, going zone instead of man. Cassel has two obvious options to choose from on this play. He could choose the wide-open McFadden along the sideline to his right. This would get at least ten yards, stopping the clock to preserve the timeout. This is by far and away the best option. He could even choose Witten, who is being covered by Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, not exactly the best coverage linebacker in the NFL. Witten has Matthews beat as he is peaking in at Cassel instead of focusing on the second most prolific tight end to ever play the game. Instead, Cassel chooses his own adventure. He stares down a triple covered Bryant, who Cassel realizes is triple covered at the last possible second and essentially spikes the ball into the ground during his attempt to pull back the throw.

Exhibit D

Now trailing by just seven points, with eight seconds left before the end of the third quarter, Cassel attempts a deep ball to wide receiver Terrance Williams on 1st and 10 from the Cowboys 30-yard line.

Commentators love to use the phrase “NFL open” at times during games.  “NFL open” refers to when a player has created a yard or two of space for himself as a window in which the quarterback can fit the ball into.

On this play, Williams does just that being covered by rookie cornerback Quinten Rollins.  At, or around the Green Bay 40-yard line, you can see Williams has a step or two and, at worst, should have a catch putting Dallas on the 30-yard line to start the 4th quarter.

Nope. Cassel overthrows the NFL open Williams by more than five yards.  Three plays later, the Cowboys punt and, after another failed drive, Green Bay salts the game away with a 12-play, 84-yard touchdown drive.

At this point, there is no reason to wait for “mathematical elimination” before trying someone else.  Literally, anyone else could be as bad.  Maybe that someone else could be better.

I am begging for the pain and suffering to cease.  Please Dallas, make it stop.
