Can the 3-8 Cowboys really make the playoffs?

We will discuss if reaching the playoffs is an actual possibility for the 3-8 Dallas Cowboys in 2015 with the season winding down.

As a Dallas Cowboys fan, at what point do you throw in the towel and admit that the season is over?

Let me tell you what my opinion is… Never!

In my own personal opinion, there is never any reason to quit and give up. Maybe it’s the competitor in me or that I have had to personally overcome difficult challenges to reach the goals that I’ve set for myself. But when I look at the Cowboys 2015 season, and still see the possibility of reaching the playoffs, I’m still hopeful.

More from The Landry Hat

I know realistically that the Cowboys have pretty much sealed their fate this season and are looking at a top 10 draft choice in the upcoming 2016 NFL Draft, but I’m just not the type of person that gives up easily and I’m hoping America’s Team feels the same.

The Cowboys have five games left and if they can manage to win Monday night against the division rival Washington Redskins and with a little help from the New York Jets  defeating the New York Giants, the Cowboys will be just one game out of first place.

That’s crazy when you think about it, right?

For the Cowboys to have any chance at reaching the playoffs they will pretty much have to win out the rest of the season and rely on some good luck that the Redskins, Giants, and Eagles start self-destructing down the stretch.

The last five games are @Washington, @Green Bay, home against the Jets, @Buffalo, and finally returning home to close out the season against the Redskins once again.

The question remains can the Cowboys finally have some luck fall their way after already going far beyond their bad luck quota this season?

Things have to start falling right for the Cowboys at some point, at least that’s what I’m hoping anyway.

I think quarterback Matt Cassel has started developing chemistry with wide receivers and it looks as if offensive coordinator Scott Linehan has developed a good working relationship with him as well. So, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the offense can finally start scoring touchdowns and put a few more W’s in the win column.

Don’t get me wrong, I fully understand that the remaining teams on the Cowboys schedule are all teams that are going to be tough to beat, but it’s doable nonetheless.

The talk of tanking the season in order to secure better draft status is appalling to think about and I’m pretty sure that the players and especially the coaching staff have not even considered that possibility.

The NFL is a what have you done for me lately business and everybody is playing for their jobs, players and coaches alike.

Plus, what could be a better ending to a season that is viewed by just about everyone as over and then to somehow secure a playoff spot and prove the doubters wrong would be mind blowing.

Can you just imagine the storyline of a 3-8 team making the playoffs? It would be historic!

If there was ever a time to pull all the stops and put all of their eggs in one basket it is now.

Let Cassel go out and take chances. Let the secondary of the Cowboys jump routes to try and come away with interceptions. Run trick plays, take shots downfield, blitz more, and do whatever it takes to inject some energy back in this team because time is running out.

3-13 isn’t the record that the Cowboys will end up with when the season finally comes to an end. I can almost guarantee you that, but can they do enough to win the division when those final seconds tick off the clock against the Redskins in that final regular-season game.

I for one still have faith, maybe a little misguided, but that is why we love or hate the game.
