What this former Cowboys player claims got him released shocked us!
A former Dallas Cowboys player claims he was released by the team last week for violating this team rule, not because of his poor play.
Last week, the Dallas Cowboys decided to makes some roster changes following the team’s seventh straight loss and prior to their leader, starting quarterback Tony Romo, returning from a collarbone injury. Those changes included releasing three players who had been with the team all season: running back Christine Michael, quarterback Brandon Weeden and cornerback Corey White.
Although the release of Weeden was expected due to his poor play and the anticipated return of Romo to the active roster, the decision to part ways with the other two was a bit of a surprise. Especially considering the Cowboys had traded a seventh round draft pick to the Seattle Seahawks for Michael a week before the start of the regular season. And the timing of the release of White was especially puzzling since Dallas had just lost starting cornerback Morris Claiborne to a hamstring injury the day before.

At the time of their release, there were rumors that both White and Michael were let go, in part, for some type of locker room issue. But several sources close to the team denied those claims, saying the move was strictly performance based. A week later, one of those players has decided to reveal what he was told was the reason he was cut by the Cowboys last week.
White told TMZSports on Monday that one of his coaches revealed to him that he was actually cut by the Cowboys due to a dress code violation. Apparently, both players didn’t wear the full suit that was required upon arriving for their road game in Florida earlier this month when the team faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Instead, White claims he wore a button down shirt and slacks in an attempted to look professional.
When asked about the possible infractions that led to their release, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett responded:
"“We evaluate our players every minute of every day,” Garrett told the Star Telegram. “We evaluate our players in meetings, in walk-throughs, on the practice field, the opportunity to get in games, how they interact with their teammates. The body of work of each of those guys. We evaluate all of it. At some point you say we feel like we like we should give someone else the opportunity to have this privilege to be a Dallas Cowboy. That is what we did in both of those cases. The decisions were made in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys.”"
White was picked up off the waiver wire by the Cowboys earlier this offseason after the New Orleans Saints released him. After a solid preseason performance, the 25-year old versatile defensive back, who can fill-in at both corner and safety, was expected to play a major back-up role on the Cowboys defense this season. Unfortunately, White struggled to find playing time.
By the end of his run in Dallas, White had played in only three games for the Cowboys; recording six total tackles and three passes defended in that span. Interesting enough, two of those three appearances were during road games. So it begs the question, did White not wear a suit during those contests as well? His last game for Dallas was back in Week Seven against the New York Giants.

White hasn’t been picked up by another NFL team since being released by Dallas last week. Michael signed to the Washington Redskins practice squad. And Weeden was signed by the Houston Texans as a backup quarterback.
The truth is all three players were having disappointing seasons in Dallas. And a player that is integral to the team’s future success would never be cut due to a wardrobe violation. But a fringe player who is underperforming certainly could. Especially following a seven-game losing streak.
