Analysis: It’s not secret, the Cowboys want a better one-technique defensive tackle to pair with Tyrone Crawford in the middle of their defensive line. One that is a run-stuffer who also has the ability to pass rush when needed. For years, the high-motored Nick Hayden has toiled at the position. But Hayden is a free agent at season’s end.
Undrafted rookie David Irving has looked strong in his first few outings. But some believe Irving is better suited at defensive end, and that he could spend more time there in 2016. Look for Dallas to try and fill that need in the draft, but not in the first round.
As for possible free agents signings, I’m not impressed by the list of possible available players. Instead, I believe the Cowboys will give veetran Terrell McClain every opportunity to win that starting role when he returns from his toe injury.
