Analysis: The Cowboys got a first hand look at quarterback Colt McCoy last season in a 20-17 Week Eight overtime loss to the Washington Redskins. In Arlington, the fifth-year veteran completed 25 of his 30 passes for 299 yards, one rushing touchdown and one interception.

The former University of Texas star led the Redskins to two wins and two losses as a starter before suffering a season-ending neck injury in mid-December.  But his time in the spotlight last year was enough to prove to some in the NFL that McCoy still has a desirable skill set.

Although maybe not the Cowboys’ first choice, McCoy did prove he could win in AT&T Stadium. And that fact alone might be enough for Dallas to take a flier on him as a free agent at a bargain price.
