9. Henry Melton, Defensive Tackle

When the Cowboys signed defensive tackle Henry Melton it was seen as a risk. Melton missed the majority of the 2013 season with Chicago Bears and didn’t feature preseason for the Cowboys. To suggest he was heading into the season rusty would’ve been an understatement.

Yet the one time Pro Bowler blasted the cobwebs away and has become a major component to the Cowboys defense. In four games he’s been credited with two sacks, two hits and seven hurries. Pro Football Focus (PFF) has him ranked as the sixteenth best defensive tackle in the league at present. Only Kyle Williams from the Buffalo Bills has a better rushing score than Melton, but he acknowledges pass rushing is an area the Boys must look to improve on.

"“We’ve still got a way to go as a rush front, but I thought we did some great things”"

Nevertheless, Melton looks to be an experienced and reliable player the Cowboys defense needed after DeMarcus Ware moved onto pastures new. Not a bad start for a past it, has been!
