Who Should Stay/Who Should Go? Laurent Robinson!

In this week’s addition of Who Should Stay/Who Should Go, I will be discussing whether or not the Cowboys should re-sign Free Agent Wide Receiver Laurent Robinson. Robinson signed a one year deal with the Cowboys after having played the past two season with the Rams. Like many of you, I didn’t even know who Robinson was when he signed and to be honest when I heard he had been signed I really didn’t care. However, when Miles Austin went down this season with his hamstring injury, Robinson emerged as a great back up receiver and at times he was arguably the best wide receiver on the football field.

Robinson’s previous 4 seasons were spent in Atlanta and St Louis where he had a total of 4 touchdowns and his highest receiving total at the end of a season was 437 yards in his first
season with the Falcons. Robinson’s number with the Cowboys is stunning when you look at his previous season; he had 11 touchdowns and 858 yards receiving.

What is his most impressive and probably most important stat however was that 5 of his 11 touchdowns were in the 4th quarter when the Cowboys needed scores the most. Now I was very critical all season about how early on Dez Bryant disappeared in the 2nd half and had it not been for Robinson in many games the Cowboys record would have been worse than what it was. Robinson had 2 touchdown catches in the 4th quarter of the Dolphins game on Thanksgiving a game the Cowboys only won by 1 point.

I know that Robinson is only a backup receiver and I am probably putting too much stock in his stats, but look at teams this season such as the Bears and the Rams who didn’t have anyone in the receiving core and how bad they struggled. Dez Bryant, Miles Austin (when healthy), Jason Witten, DeMarco Murray and then you throw Robinson in there; Tony Romo has some of the great offensive weapons. Now I am not saying Jerry Jones should throw a 5-6 year deal at Robinson, because as I mentioned the Cowboys have a pretty decent receiving core. However I think that a 2-3 year deal would be nice and we could see if this past season was the real thing or if it was just a fluke.

Robinson has said that he wants to come back to the Cowboys and if he wants to comeback and is not wanting a crazy contract than I think the Cowboys would be stupid to let him go. What if Austin gets hurt again or if something happens to Dez? Backup wide receivers with numbers like Robinson had last season aren’t easy to find and we need to keep him. I fell in love with Robinson last season after watching him the Eagles game, we got killed that game but he caught my eye regardless.  The Cowboys need a lot of help in a lot of areas including offensive line and the secondary, so I am not saying to throw crazy money at Robinson. He wants back, he is willing to be the 3rd receiver and this particular fan wants him back, in my opinion it is a no brainer.

Alright Landry Hat readers, now it is your turn to tell me what you think. Do we keep Robinson or let him go and use that money to sign someone else. Comment away and can’t wait to hear your opinions on Robinson.
