Dallas Cowboys vs Detroit Lions Halftime Score: 14-20

Tony Romo throws to Jason Witten for 6 yards. On 2nd and 4 Romo hits Marion Barber for a pass, but Barber fumbles. Dallas keeps the ball even though the Lions came out of the scrum with it. I am starting to feel sick. On 1st and 10 Barber gets the ball and runs for eight yards. On 2nd and 2 Barber gets the ball for a half yard. Dallas is deep in the Lions territory. On 3rd and 2 Romo tosses it to Barber on the left side and he runs untouched for a 20-yard touchdown. Great blocking! Lions lead cut to 10-7.
The Lions come out gunning it and on two plays they gain 55 yards, including a wide open pass to tight end McKugh who runs for 35 yards after a pitiful attempt at tackling. On 3rd and 14 the Lions can’t get a first down. Hansen kicks another field goal to put the Lions up 13-7.
Quarterback comparison: Kitna 8/12, 100 yards. Romo 4/7, 25 yards.
Dallas gets the ball back. On 3rd and 2 Romo rolls right but it is incomplete to Patrick Crayton. Ugh. Dallas punts it.
Kitna comes out passing with a 19 yarder to Calvin Johnson. Then, Kevin Jones runs for another first down. Then Kitna makes another 9 yard pass. Holy cow folks, Dallas looks horrible!!!!!!!! Duckett plows ahead for the first down. 10 rushes for 57 yards for Kevin Jones. Kitna pump fakes and finds rookie Johnson wide open for 18 yards. The Lions have been in Dallas territory for all four of their possessions. Inside the 15 yard line now, Duckett pushes ahead for 3 yards. Duckett gets the ball again and Bradie James misses the first tackle and he barrels through the defense for a 12 yard gain. He was stopped at the 1. Good god!!!!!!!!!
On 1st and Goal, Bradie James finally makes a play and Jones is tackled for a 2 yard loss. Kitna then throws to Johnson who almost caught it but Anthony Henry and Ken Hamlin were able to somehow knock it loose. Good defense. On 3rd and Goal, Jones powers into the endzone. Lions lead 20-7. Kitna is pumped up. The Lions are pumped up. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!!
With 1:41 seconds left before halftime, Dallas gets the ball back. They need to score. Barber gets a short pass for 3 yards and he gets out of bounds with 1:29 left. On 2nd and 8 Witten makes a catch for the first down. On 1st and 10 Witten gets the catch for 9 more yards and the Cowboys are on the move with 1:01 left. Romo escapes pressure and runs for a first down for 15 yards to the Lions 30 yard line with 47 seconds left. Romo fires up the middle to Witten again for a first down and Dallas calls a time out with 41 seconds left. Dallas has 1 time out left. Witten has 6 catches for 52 yards. Romo dumps it off to Barber who gains enough for a first down on a tough 10 yard run. He also gets out of bounds with 33 seconds left.
The Lions bring a full-out blitz and Romo tosses the ball high in the air to a wide open Barber, who scores. ROMO MAKES AN AMAZING PLAY!!!!!!! Just like that Dallas makes it a 6-point game, 20-14.
The Dallas defense has been tested all day. Bradie James has missed several tackles, and Terence Newman has been a non factor. Pretty shocking considering all of the smack talk this week. However, those who are not Dallas fans may not realize that all season long Dallas has started real slow. In the second half, the Cowboys bring it. I won’t expect anything different. Marion Barber has two touchdowns, one from a catch. Tony Romo’s favorite target today has been Jason Witten. Terrell Owens has not even been thrown to yet, which has happened in just one other game this year. The defense has missed too many tackles and the coverage has been awful sans one play in the endzone where Ken Hamlin and Anthony Henry broke up an apparent Calvin Johnson catch.
The Lions had their way with the Dallas defense in the first half and some major adjustments will have to be made. The problem, as I see it, is the Lions have been able to run the ball far better than anyone probably expected. So when the Lions do pass the defense is scattered across the field it seems and receivers are wide open. It’s the biggest problem for this game right now, and no one is really playing particularly well.
