We will discuss why Ezekiel Elliott was the right choice for the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

I may be a little bit biased, but there’s no other direction that I would’ve liked the Dallas Cowboys to of gone with their first-round pick. To me, Ezekiel Elliott was the only name I wanted to  hear coming out of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s mouth when it was the Cowboys turn to pick.

Elliot just helps in so many different ways for the Cowboys that I just couldn’t really justify drafting anyone else.

Of course, Jalen Ramsey made sense because the Cowboys do need help in their secondary, but to me he is a safety in the NFL and they were looking at him to play cornerback, which would’ve been a mistake in my book. Ramsey may go on to have an excellent career in the NFL, but there was just something about his play that left me a little bit nervous.

With Elliott, I feel like the Cowboys not only drafted the best player available, but drafted the safest player with no questions surrounding there on the field performance or off the field performance.

Sure, there are going to be those doubters that say drafting a running back so highly in the first round is a mistake since the position has been devalued over the past several years, but that really depends on the types of players that happened to be available in each individual draft.

Do you think Todd Gurley wouldn’t have been drafted just as high in this draft as Zeke was?

There are special circumstances for every NFL Draft, and this draft class was somewhat limited to prospects that be considered having elite talent. You can throw Ramsey and Elliott into that conversation, but where there really any other dominant pass rushers or defensive backs?

Just take a look at the quarterbacks that were available in the first round and ask yourself if they were really worthy of being drafted with the first two selections?

I would argue that they weren’t, but that’s my opinion.  Every team has their own value system and the Cowboys happen to believe that  Elliott’s value to the team was worthy of the fourth overall selection.

I’ve personally been on the Elliott bandwagon for a few years now and I can’t tell you how elated I am to see that he will be a major part of the Cowboys for years to come.

Elliott can run the ball inside and outside, he can catch the ball in the backfield, pick up short yardage situations, and most importantly he is already competent in pass protection. There really are no weaknesses in his game and he can only get better, especially behind the Cowboys talented offensive line.

Elliott not only helps out the offense, but the defense as well.

By being able to run the ball more effectively, he can help keep the defense fresh throughout the game by controlling the clock and allowing the defensive players more time to recuperate.

Honestly,  I’m not doing a very good job of expressing how much of an impact Ezekiel Elliott can have with the Cowboys, but just take comfort in knowing that this is a player that will truly change the entire dynamic of the team for the better.
