A Dallas writer believes the Cowboys will use the fourth overall pick on one of these three draft prospects.

Now that the NFL Scouting Combine is in it’s final day, speculation about the upcoming draft should hit an all-time high. For Dallas Cowboys fans, the focus is likely on who the Cowboys will elect to draft with their top selection, the fourth overall pick.

The Cowboys have several needs on their current roster. Those positions include quarterback, running back, wide receiver, defensive tackle, defensive end, linebacker and cornerback. With that many needs to fill, Dallas will likely look to the top rated player on their board when their number is called to determine their top selection.

One of the names that has been associated with the Cowboys top pick for a while has been UCLA linebacker Myles Jack. Some even have Jack ranked as the top overall player in this draft class.

But the Cowboys have clearly stated in the last week that they wish to re-sign their starting middle linebacker and current free agent Rolando McClain. With Pro Bowler Sean Lee starting on the weakside and back-ups like Anthony Hitchens, Andrew Gachkar and Damien Wilson also on the depth chart, it’s seems unlikely Dallas would take a linebacker with their top pick.

Although there are plenty things to like about Jack, one Dallas writer believes the Cowboys will look at three other big names when it comes to the fourth overall selection in April.

"“I love Jack’s athleticism. He’s worthy of a top five pick. But I don’t think the Cowboys will draft a linebacker in the first round,” answered Dallas Morning News staff writer Jon Machota during a chat on the newspaper’s website. “I think that No. 4 pick comes down to Joey Bosa, Jalen Ramsey and Jared Goff. As far as linebacker, I see the Cowboys working harder to re-sign Rolando than draft a LB in the early rounds.”"

I don’t envy the Cowboys choice here. But if Goff is still on the board when it’s time for Dallas to make their pick, I’m not sure how they can pass on the Cal quarterback simply based on the importance of the position.

My second choice would be Bosa, as adding a defensive end to the roster would allow the Cowboys to part ways with Greg Hardy cleanly. And it’s likely the right move considering the recent suspension levied by the NFL on defensive end Randy Gregory for substance abuse.

Finally, I would take Ramsey. The Florida State defensive back could actually be the most immediately impactful player of the three considering the current state of the Cowboys defensive backfield. I’m just not sure Dallas is willing to use this high a draft pick on a defensive back.
