Have You Hugged Your Crayton Today?
Fortunately Dez Bryant is only expected to miss the next four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain. The news could be worse and considering that fact, Cowboys fans need to appreciate Patrick Crayton even more. For a team that has Super Bowl aspirations, certainly having depth at a key position like wide receiver is paramount. Miles Austin does have a history of injuries. Fluke plays like the one that Bryant was injured, happen all the time in football. If Crayton were traded for a 2011 5th round pick, the Cowboys might find themselves in a scenario with Roy [...]
Dez Suffers High Ankle Sprain
Our first opportunity to view Dez Bryant in a Cowboys uniform will be delayed by 4 to 6 weeks. While participating in drills, Bryant was tangled up with Orlando Scandrick and suffered the injury. Unfortunately, high ankle sprains (v. Normal sprained ankles) take much longer to recover from and can linger even after the player has returned to the field.
Bengals Fans – Drink it Up While You Can
According to NFL.com, Terrell Owens has quickly ingratiated himself to the Bengals fans. His speed and physique are a marvel to behold. Bengals fans, enjoy the party right now. Owens is like a Long Island iced tea. You can barely perceive the alcohol in the drink, so you drink up, and up, and up. Anyone who’s been to Dickinson College (my alma mater) knows the result of a long night of drinking. Eventually the party will stop and you have to face the cruel morning light. Owens will look great in practice. The CB’s aren’t jamming him at the line of scrimmage, [...]
Spears v Haynesworth
The Haynesworth situation in Washington is comedic, as long as you are on the outside looking in. For the second day in a row, The Redskin’s 100 million dollar man, Albert Haynesworth, has failed his conditioning test administered by the Redskins. Reports indicate that the test is a simple running test of 300 yards. Reports indicate that Haynesworth took a bathroom break and walked the final portion of the first conditioning test, which suggests that Haynesworth may not have been giving it his all. Haynesworth signed a seven year 100 million dollar deal in February 2009 with the Redskins. Built [...]
Flozell Adams Sets Up the Hotel in Pittsburgh
Flozell “The Hotel” can now claim to be one of the nicest and most expensive hotels in all of Pittsburgh, right next to the Holiday Inn Express and The Red Roof Inn. Reports have Adams signing a multi-year contract with the Steelers. It would be astonishing if the contract was any longer than 2 years. Adams is still capable of playing at a high level. After he left the playoff game against Minnesota with a knee injury, the Cowboys had difficulty blocking the pass rush of the Vikings. It has not been determined whether Adams will play on the left [...]
Another Man’s Treasure: Bengals Edition
I don’t often pay too much attention to other teams, especially the bottom of their roster. When Sean Payton became the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, he brought along several mid-level players. Terrance Copper, Billy Cundiff, Scott Fujita, Scott Shanle, and Rob Pettiti. Understandably, Payton had a familiarity with the players and their work ethic and he preferred to dance with the devil he knew. Fast forward a few years and Bill Parcells accepted the top role with the Dolphins. Tony Sparano and Jeff Ireland headline the Dallas departures along with Anthony Fasano, Lousaka Polite, and Jason Ferguson. [...]
An All Texas Super Bowl – Not Just a Fantasy
There are three basic requirements for an All-Texas Super Bowl: Cowboys, Texans, with the game played at Cowboys Stadium or Reliant Stadium. It is a given that Super Bowl XLV will occur in Arlington on Sunday, February 6, 2011. Certainly the Cowboys are on the short list of competitors who have a legitimate shot at making the Super Bowl from the NFC. However, they do have to contend with the toughest division in football as well as the Vikings, Packers, Saints, and which ever team will rise from the dismal NFC West. Vegas lists the Cowboys as 9:2 (for every [...]
Per SI, Cowboys among Top Four in NFC
Personally, I don’t think preseason ranking mean much. I don’t think rankings after 17 regular season weeks mean much either. The issue that may be raised is, “Are the Cowboy getting the respect they deserve?” According to Don Banks’s ranking, the Cowboys are 8 overall, and 4th in the NFC behind the Saints, Packers, and Vikings. It is a fair assessment to say that these three teams were at the top of the conference last year and they did not undergo wholesale changes the way the Cardinals have in the last 6 months. So it is fair to have the [...]
Does TO to the Bengals Increase Interest in HOF Game?
Terrell Owens signed a one year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday. The Bengals are slated to play the Dallas Cowboys in the Hall of Fame game on August 8, the first of 5 preseason games for each team. The fact that both teams play 5 preseason games is important. Normally, in the first preseason game for a veteran playoff team, we expect the starters to play a series or 2, but no longer than a quarter of the game. With 5 games, the amount of playing time will be based solely on the coaches predilection. So what can [...]
Bryant Pleads Ignorance; Diffuses Situation With Humor
I’m not 100% sure I believe that Dez Bryant doesn’t know about the mild hazing rookies undergo. If that’s the case, then he was basically telling Roy Williams to carry his own weight (which is what Cowboys fans have been asking for years). If he knew of the situation, he is standing against hazing in general. If he was ignorant, he was simply being discourteous to an underachieving veteran. I prefer the former over the latter, but at least Bryant is making a concerted effort to diffuse the story which was the biggest national non-story in the early 2010 season. Bryant was [...]
