Cowboys projected depth chart after the 2024 NFL Draft
By Jerry Trotta
Linebacker: Eric Kendricks, DeMarvion Overshown, Damone Clark, Marist Liufau
A glaring weakness going into free agency, Cowboys fans should feel good about the team's linebacker room following the draft. Kendricks is still a strong field commander at age-32 and Dallas is extremely bullish on Overshown coming off his ACL tear. Clark took a step back in year two, but fourth-round pick Maris Liufau gives the defense a thumper its longed for.
Cornerback: Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, Jourdan Lewis, Caelen Carson, Israel Mukuamu, Nahshon Wright, Eric Scott Jr.
This is a very top-heavy rotation. By not re-signing Stephon Gilmore, the Cowboys are putting immense pressure on Diggs to hit the ground running post-ACL surgery. Luckily, Bland and Lewis are coming off banner seasons and fifth-round pick Caelen Carson gives Zimmer a press corner that loves to get his nose dirty against the run. Don't be shocked if Carson jumps Scott and Wright on the depth chart by the time training camp has wrapped up.
Safety: Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, Markquese Bell, Juanyeh Thomas, Israel Mukuamu
Safety might be the deepest position on the roster. Wilson figures to be the biggest beneficiary from Zimmer's arrival, but the newly-minted defensive coordinator must find a way to get Bell and Thomas on the field in 2024. Both can be a handful in coverage while Thomas proved in limited reps that he can cause havoc at the line of scrimmage.
