The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are expected to fight tooth and nail this upcoming season for the NFC East crown. The Eagles were a juggernaut last season, but the Cowboys closed the gap this offseason.

In order to reclaim the division title, though, Dallas will have to take care of their other division rivals. While nobody is worried about the Sam Howell-led Commanders, the Giants are trending up after they won a playoff game in Brian Daboll's first year as head coach.

Despite that, the Cowboys still swept New York last season. That included winning a game with Cooper Rush starting at quarterback. Both fixtures were one-score games, but Dallas has won 11 of the last 12 meetings vs the G-Men.

It'll be interesting to see how the Giants perform after their best season in seven years. They should be in Wild Card mix, but regression is possible given their schedule is more difficult and they won't catch anyone by surprise in 2023.

One AFC executive is expecting big things from New York, however. How big you ask? They used the elusive "c" word to describe the club.

Cowboys: AFC executive laughably pegs Giants as contenders

Here's the rest of the quote.

"[Darren] Waller is the difference maker. He changes everything. [Parris] Campbell was a good add. We had [Jalin Hyatt] high on our board, but didn’t need a receiver. Tons of speed."

"Obviously I’m assuming [Saquon] Barkley plays, but as good as he was last year, he will be much better with this team. … The defense could be dominant.”

A contender to make the playoffs? Or a contender as in potentially challenge for the Super Bowl? Those are two entirely different definitions. Sadly, it sounds like this executive is drinking the Giants Kool-Aid. Unfortunately for this exec, though, there's only one straw to go around, because nobody has spoken of the Giants in this light.

Cowboys fans might want to stay away from Giants Twitter. Giants fans already love gassing up Daniel Jones as a top-10 quarterback. The last thing they need is an NFL executive raving about the team's offseason moves.

It's true, thatJoe Schoen had another strong offseason. At the same time, are the Cowboys really shaking in their boots at the thought of covering Parris Campbell and Jalin Hyatt? The former played 15 games over his first three seasons because he couldn't stay on the field, and Hyatt wasn't even the first Tennessee WR drafted.

Again, the Giants are heading in the right direction, but it's embarrassing that this executive is throwing the contender word around willy-nilly. In no order, the Cowboys, Eagles and 49ers are the only "contenders" in the NFC.

If the Giants are a contender, you might as well extend the proverbial olive branch to the Seahawks, VIkings and Lions.

Give me a break.
