3 Cowboys who will immediately benefit from Mike Zimmer’s arrival
2. Israel Mukuamu, S
The Dallas Cowboys haven't gotten Israel Mukuamu the kind of run he has deserved over the course of his first handful of years with the team.
Mukuamu is a 6-foot-4 safety with elite strength and explosiveness, but he's only been able to carve out a substantial special teams role up to this point. That could all change in 2024 with Mike Zimmer coming aboard.
From his days in Cincinnati where he had guys like George Iloka (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) to Minnesota where he had bigger defensive backs like familiar friend Jayron Kearse (6-foot-4, 228 pounds), Harrison Smith (6-foot-2, 211 pounds), or Xavier Rhodes (6-foot-1, 220 pounds), it's clear that Zimmer has taken a liking to bigger defensive backs.
Israel Mukuamu isn't the only one who stands to benefit from this, but you certainly can't help but wonder if he could take on the role that might soon be vacated by the aforementioned Jayron Kearse, who is hitting free agency in 2024.
Mukuamu has the type of size and athleticism to take on a similar role if Zimmer wants to keep that around in his defense going forward.
