3. Bryan Bresee, DT, Clemson

Our second Clemson Tiger on the list, Bryan Bresee, the top recruit in the 2020 class, has been on NFL radars since his freshman season at Clemson when he won ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year.

As a former top recruit, Bresee’s size, strength, and athleticism have always been evident and he was able to translate his physical skills into making an immediate impact on the field for Clemson. At over 6 foot 5 inches and 298 pounds, Bresee put up elite weight adjusted agility and speed testing. The power he possesses in his lower body is evident in his first step explosiveness and ability to hold the point of attack against the run.

With a well-filled out upper torso, Bresee also uses violent and powerful hands to create displacement and club/rip through linemen. Towards the end of the season Bresee clearly hit his stride and put on a dominant display against North Carolina in the ACC Championship game, with tape that stacks up against other top defensive tackles in the draft.

Bresee’s concerns mainly lie in his injury history, a torn ACL four games into the 2021 season, and production that does not match the physical traits. However some of the production concerns could have valid reasons to justify them. First, at the start of the 2021 season his younger sister Ella Bresee tragically passed away from cancer at the age of 15. Second, Bresee had a case of strep throat in September that developed into a kidney infection.

However, on film Bresee does struggle to consistently finish plays, often leaving you wanting more. A linear rusher possessing a high cut build, he can struggle to keep his momentum while turning sharp corners in the pocket, taking him out of the play. Despite his imposing size, Bresee also has a lack of functional length which limits his tackling range and ability to consistently shed blocks to finish plays.

A strong finish to the season has Bresee’s development pointed in the right direction, but with health concerns limiting him from reaching his ceiling at Clemson, the Cowboys would certainly be taking a risk by selecting him 26th overall come April 27th.
