1. Maybe Dak Prescott isn’t as good as Jerry Jones thinks

Before diving into this, I want to clarify that I love quarterback Dak Prescott. He is a supremely talented NFL player and the quarterback the Dallas Cowboys need. Still, it’s okay to admit some players are better than him.

Prescott is not the best quarterback in the league, but he is undoubtedly top-10 and can push for the top five. Those players still need support to play at their best, and Dak doesn’t have anywhere near the support he needs.

Trading away Amari Cooper saved cap space, but also compromised the offense. The return of Michael Gallup, the drafting of Jalen Tolbert, and the signing of James Washington were supposed to cover that, but nothing beats top talent. Live and learn.

Anything that could have gone wrong did for Dallas’ wideouts (except Lamb). Now, how can the Cowboys’ front office step up and provide talent rather than expecting Dak to run the show?

Sure, having a QB show-off looks good, but if it doesn’t provide results, then who cares? Does it hurt to surround your star player with other star players? Every team playing in the Super Bowl over the last two years added an impact player that season.

While I focused on wide receivers earlier, that’s not the only position that will help the team. Stability on the interior defensive line and a corner to partner with Trevon Diggs would go a long way. Take a peak at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers likely fire sale for some talent.

The point is, don’t put all the expectations on your quarterback to make something happen. Injuries come up; someone will have a bad game, so plan for it.

The 2022 season was supposed to be a down year ramping up for 2023, but the defense played like one of the best in the NFL, and Dak showed he could thread the needle. Sure, he led the league in interceptions, but take a look at each pick and count which ones are his fault.

It’s been said so often, but the Dallas Cowboys are on the right path to winning their first Super Bowl since 1996. The correct decision when an opportunity presents itself is required, but it is within reach. Jerry, support your quarterback by trading for a proven talent since you won’t give up your spot anytime soon.
