4. Tight End Depth
No matter how you feel about Dalton Schultz and the Cowboys franchise tag on him, this front office has been working to add depth at the tight end position. That depth started to show promise with both Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot making plays in both the blocking game and passing game. It’s been a while since we’ve been excited about the Cowboys’ tight end depth, but the group that they have now looks to have a bright future.
Mike McCarthy on Cowboys rookie TE Jake Ferguson's play at Denver: “I love the way he played. I love his play style. He did some good things on special teams. ... Same with Peyton Hendershot. I thought both young TEs did some really nice things.”

While Ferguson isn’t one that you will see making plays down the field, his ability to do so and still hold his blocks at this level is a promising sign. Hendershot showed promise at stretching the field and being a real down-the-field threat for the Cowboys like Blake Jarwin was. Both have a bright future and could be used a lot in this Cowboys’ offense.
