1. Sean Payton, Former Saints Coach

In my personal belief, the Cowboys failures over the last two decades are way above the head coach. Therefore, a new coach really can’t solve everything. However, if there is anybody that could push Dallas into legitimate success at the HC position, it is Sean Payton.

The recently retired Payton has been the main character in the Cowboys coaching rumors, and with his past with the team it is easy to make the connection.

He enjoyed huge success in New Orleans from 2006 to 2021 and is reportedly likely to get back into coaching next season. There seems to be at least some mutual interest between the Dallas higher ups and Payton, much to the dismay of McCarthy.

This seems like a match made in heaven, with McCarthy potentially on the way out and Payton eyeing a return. The biggest question is whether he would really want to rejoin the organization and if the front office is willing to move on from a coach this early into his tenure.

Cowboy fans are frustrated, maybe more now than ever before, and if the same issues from the past come back around this year, they will be demanding change in a serious way.

With front office and ownership changes seeming unlikely as always, perhaps a coach like Payton coming back could spark the fire Cowboys fans are lacking right now.
