3 biggest strengths on the Cowboys’ 2022 roster
By Jerry Trotta
1. Quarterback
Some Cowboys fans might scoff at the idea of quarterback being the roster’s biggest strength, but they have a top-10 player at the game’s most important position in Dak Prescott. There’s no denying Prescott has to improve his performance against playoff-caliber teams, but Dallas has done nothing but win since Dak took over the reins of the offense from Tony Romo.
The Cowboys are 53-32 in Prescott’s starts over the last five seasons; really four when you consider the season-ending ankle injury he sustained in 2020. That stretch includes three NFC East titles.
Speaking of the dislocated ankle, Prescott was phenomenal last year for a player coming off such a gruesome injury and there’s reason to believe he’ll add more scrambling to his game two years removed from the injury. We all know Dak is at his best when he’s keeping defenses honest with his legs.
In what many considered an up-and-down year for Dallas’ quarterback, Prescott finished fourth in the NFL in completion percentage (68.8%), seventh in passing yards (4,449), fifth in touchdowns (38) and third in passer rating (104.2).
Parsons is the Cowboys most talented player, but the success of the franchise hinges on Prescott being healthy. At the top of his game, the 29-year-old QB is one of the five or seven-best players at the position. That’s a huge advantage.
